Crossing over to a remarkable music venue north of the River Tees in County Durham, tonight I’ll be here as the Bridget Metcalfe Quintet. Joining me, the musicians include pianist Dave Archbold, Vilda Kuby (double bass) and Paul Donnelly (guitar). A notable jazz drummer will be with us too.
Hartlepool is a seaside town and a significant British port. Its industrial history is close to my heart because family members have worked for decades on both sides of the Tees. The beautiful grand piano at this venue is perfect for St George’s Jazz Club nights.

We’re returning to the small market town of Norton-on-Tees, which is the home of one of our favourite venues. The Norton green stretches along the High Street which is where you’ll find Café Lilli. It’s classy here and special. This is one of their annual Jazz Weekends with cool jazz songs and instrumentals for diners.

A cool jazz vibe for the weekend.
The Jazz Weekends are always well attended. It’s best to reserve a table early as Café Lilli regulars snap the tables up quickly! Norton has an important place in history; it dates back to at least the Anglo-Saxon period. There is a large village green with a duckpond, all surrounded by charming Georgian houses and cottages. Café Lilli’s Sardinian owner Roberto Pittalis, did well to choose Norton for his lovely venue.

Nestling at the edge of Co Durham, Café Lilli’s reputation for fine food and wines is second to none. The Sunday lunchtime jazz events continue for the autumn and my pianist and double bass player are with me today for lunchtime and afternoon diners to enjoy the ambience, the food and the music.
